portaPUP

By

Merging the traditional doghouse with flat pack construction, portaPUP is composed of 5 pieces of wood allowing for simple assembly without fasteners into a rigid, portable shelter.  The panels are made of locally sourced cedar, lightweight for ease of travel/portability and resistance to moisture and sunlight, making it an ideal doghouse on the go.  The flat pack design and structure allow for freedom of movement and can be assembled and disassembled in an instant.  Intersecting areas of portaPUP create storage space while assembled.  Strategic perforations and voids allow portaPUP to breathe while providing shade, creating a comfortable and tranquil space for all dogs seeking an escape from the Texas heat.

The Hound Mound

By

“The hound mound” is inspired by the true nature of a canine. The creature comforts of the selected materials and colors from the warm wood finish to the turf roof invokes the feeling of home in a whimsical yet practical way. The double-curved slope turf roof and thoughtful details creates a sense of seamless integration into the landscape with durability in mind. The introduction of varying wood slat siding and integral dog bowl brings in simple yet intentional details to provide an open expression while also maintaining the integrity of the doghouse. Each unique component of the design is an ode to the canine with playful and thoughtful implementation of elements while creating a cozy environment.

Breezy Bungalow

By

The Breezy Bungalow is designed to meet the needs of the biggest pups on the block. A large opening makes it easy for our big friends to get in and curl up for a nap or just watch the world go by. It can get hot in Texas with all that fur, but this home is designed with slatted walls to keep that cool breeze blowing through so your pup stays cool and comfortable.  The planter on the roof of this home makes it a little extra welcoming.

Four Green Gables

By

Almost as old as the act of building itself, the gable has become the quintessential roof form for “home” around the world.  A gable roof’s triangular silhouette is not only delightfully symmetrical, but also serve the important purpose of shedding away rain efficiently.  This entry features a cross-gabled roof set upon a sturdy platform with legs, a spacious wood-decked interior, and generous natural ventilation.  It recalls the comforting shape of home and celebrates the craft of old-fashioned carpentry.

Who Let The Kids In?

By

You may have a kid or you may have a dog that is your kid, nevertheless, to a kid, a dog is a best friend. Our “Who Let The Kids In?” dog house combines the “fun” in adopting and raising a dog with the “fun” that comes with childhood. Creating a natural, warm, and welcoming design, we utilize complementary materials that provide a balancing contrast of color and texture. While focusing on the needs and uses for the dog’s house, we provide a unique space for fun, learning, and interaction at all levels for both kinds of our “kids”.

Pitched Pup

By

Our minimalist doghouse is a take on the classic tent, with added strength and durability for your precious fur baby. The unique architectonic stance lends its inspiration to the natural playful and inquisitive nature of our canine friends. Strikingly bold, yet sleek, steel ‘A’ frames create a smooth, crisp, transition from the “Play bow” stance of one perspective to the “Dog point” stance of another. Offering all the spacious comfort that any pooch could ever dream of, a removable weatherproof canvas cover and bed permit easy clean-ability. Allow your pup to experience the oasis of your yard created by passive cooling strategies and cover as they escape the harsh exterior elements.

Paw Pad

By

With the idea in mind of a clean classic design with contemporary expression, the home designed for our 4-legged friends reflects how dynamic and important they are for us.  Using five simple planes, we enclose and define the basic floor, walls and roof in various angles that play with perspective to make the inside space more open and inviting.  Hardwoods and glass define the inside space.  These two materials flow through the length of the structure, segmenting the planes and creating a layer of detail that is simple yet allows the shape to be expressive.

Hound in the House

By

This design seeks to combine the fun of owning a large dog and the fantasies that feature them. Hound in the house draws inspiration from the whimsical environments of children’s stories; from big red dogs to certain top-hat-wearing cats. From the shingled and tongue-in-groove roof, to the quirky colors and distressing below, the design is a take on traditional residential building styles with a an intentionally haphazard appearance.

INBETWEEN

By

Merging the traditional doghouse with sculpture, INBETWEEN began as a cubic mass that was then carved, sliced, and whittled down using the proportions and positions of dogs as a datum for the sculptural void, the in between space. Through this method of sculpting space, INBETWEEN becomes perceived as either a cubic mass or dissolving, partly or completely, into the landscape. Locally sourced cedar is used for structure and skin, preserved through a charcoal and clear seal process forming a protective layer, and joined into the cubic mass. Strategic carving and slicing allow INBETWEEN to breathe while simultaneously providing shade, creating a comfortable and tranquil space for all dogs seeking an escape from the Texas heat.
