The form is inspired by a polyhedron shaped dog toy that serves as an art piece. It allows air flow and natural light intrusion via abstract perforations on inverse sides. Interior colors were consciously selected to fall within a dog’s color spectrum of visible light. The home creates a safe, comfortable, and appropriately scaled dwelling space as a temporary dog retreat.
This home was created to be functional for both the owner and the pet. The design, aside from having everything a doghouse needs, has an additional gaming area to entice the owner and guests to play. Above the roof, there lays a bar top with fake greenery to create a space where anyone can hang around the doghouse while playing. The modern and neutral aesthetic complement the primary focus, the game, by letting the colored acrylic stand out. Altogether, this doghouse is a standalone piece that becomes an addition to the exterior for both the owner and the pet.
The Call of the Wild brings a mountain retreat for your dog to their own backyard. Inspired by a log cabin, the team set out to create a cozy shelter that could provide relaxation to a big dog in every season. Designed with a variety of wood elements, the natural material is meant to bring your dog closer to nature, back to their ancestral past and into the woods. The front and back walls of the house, with staggered natural wood vertical elements referencing trees in a forest, allow ventilation through the house while also enclosing the space to make it feel safe. The form embodies a cat’s natural flexibility and their ability to twist around different surfaces while being a fun and exciting structure to place in a home.
